"EVEN A BAD day at the office saves lives"
WildHearts Tour of Scotland 2008
When we Overcome our Challenges the Whole World BenefitsOn the 28th of June Colin Downie, WildHearts In Action's Business Manager, will undertake a two week epic cycle riding a heart shaped route around the coast of Scotland. Pedalling over 1,000 miles and ascending collective heights more than twice that of Everest, Colin will finish at the summit of the mountain that tried to kill him. Three years ago, a paragliding accident over remote hills sent him plummeting from the skies to crash into a cliff at bone-shattering speed. Clinging to life, Colin spent eight hellish hours dragging himself to safety. His ordeal continued in hospital as he suffered for months, enduring countless agonies, operations and physio sessions, willing himself to walk again... Now, three years later Colin will return to the mountain in triumph to stand upon it after he completes his cycle on July 12th, the anniversary of his accident.
Through his courage and faith Colin has transformed the mountain that would have killed him into a monument to the human spirit. To celebrate this, Colin will be raising money for WildHearts. He invites you to join him. You can help him make his cycle an inspiration by getting involved in any of the following ways:
- Sponsor him. WildHearts help the poor to help themselves, giving them a hand up, not a hand out. By sponsoring Colin you will empower the poor and enable them to work their way out of poverty. Visit Colin's fundraising page here.
- Join him. If you've ever struggled and overcome adversity we would like to honour you. Is someone you know facing challenges? Then let them know they are not alone. Ride alongside Colin and help raise funds for WildHearts. (Places are already filling up on the Glasgow to Oban leg, so to find out more click here.)
- Champion him. If Colin's story has touched you then let your friends and family know. Please forward this link to them.
Finally, if you're feeling REALLY inspired by Colin's story and want to set off on your own unique challenge, contact the WildHearts team. How will your story benefit the World?

'Beautiful things can come from horrendous experiences if we do not lose our faith...if we believe that, eventually courage and faith are always rewarded. If you or someone you love is going through some hard times never give up hope. Everything happens for a reason. That is my experience, that is the WildHearts message and that is why I am doing this cycle.'
