The Hamilton School WeeWalk
Over 150 children from the Nursery and Junior School of the Hamilton School took part in the WeeWalk which was the first of its kind to take place in direct partnership with an Aberdeenshire school. The Hamilton School WeeWalkers worked hard in the build up to the event, collecting sponsorship for WildHearts and following the healthy eating chart. At the WeeWalk itself they were joined by school staff, who helped marshal the route and dish out snacks to the pupils as they made their way around the route. They were cheered on by parents and the WeeWalks Characters; cute and colourful mascots from monkeys and bears to cowboys and a giant strawberry! WeeWalkers collected a special medal for their efforts and celebrated their success with their fellow pupils at the WildHearts victory arch.
The Hamilton School is the largest privately owned independent school in Scotland. Principal Kathlyn Taylor said:
“We were delighted to take part in an event which had a dual theme of encouraging children to eat healthily and to help tackle global poverty. We actively encourage both of these themes at the Hamilton School and the children from a young age are well versed in the advantages of a fit and healthy body and mind and the crucial part that diet and exercise play. They are also acutely aware of how fortunate they are and how it is essential to play their part in helping people - particularly young people - around the world who are much less fortunate. So for us at Hamilton the WildHearts philosophy seems like a perfect fit.”
WildHearts tackle global poverty by providing micro-loans and business training to some of the world’s poorest people, enabling them to work their way out of poverty, support their families and send their children to school. Amazingly, WildHearts microloans are typically repaid and relent three times a year, so the Hamilton School pupils will continue to help more people work their way out of poverty every year.
